Spring upon us

My tiny meyer lemon tree is already quite prolific, despite only being about 12 inches tall. It has already given me 2 little lemons, which I turned into lemon curd, and ate on biscuits and scones. Lemon is one of my favorite flavors, and the smell of these blossoms is now one of my favorite scents!

The kittens turned 1, and are now fully cats. If you have "cat babies" then perhaps you have an idea of just how loved and obsessed over they are. . . anyhow we made these little birthday ring ornaments, an effort that took 4 of us (one to design the shape, one to cut out and sand, one to paint the orange, and one to paint the faces).

I had a birthday in January, and one of my gifts was this vintage 1940s cast iron parlor stove for my doll house! I am slooowwwly working on making a doll house for myself, and this is my favorite part of it so far. I think a little mouse will live in this house, and I have just about decided how to make her. All the little girls (and several women!) in my life are absolutely fascinated and I will get the question "how is your dollhouse?" quite a lot!

Spring is upon us, and today I began to cut down the dead flowers in the garden to make way for new ones. I usually leave them up as long as possible for the mini beasts of the garden, and then am careful and leave the piles undisturbed for a while after that. One year we found a cecropia moth cocoon and it grew into the most beautiful enormous moth that we still talk about today. That's an experience I am so grateful we had.

Love,

Melanie

please say hello if you can, so I can have an idea of who is still visiting! I had gone fully private for a while, but feel like venturing out again, in hopes of connection and sharing.

  1. Has your snow already gone? Spring feels so far away here, but the light is back making it all much easier. And happy belated birthday!

Reading from the UK. We had a very un-english spring (warm and sunny) it has been a pleasant delight. I enjoy your words and beautiful pictures, thank you, B

  8. Hi Melanie! I’m still here, but late :) I used to look at your blog when I was a young mom along with soulemama, heirloom seasons, farmama, little home blessings and frontier dreams. Do you remember any of those? They were such an inspiration to me! I miss those simple blogs that didn’t have ads all over them. Is there a place where that kind of sharing is still happening?

    1. Hi Christine, I think of those as the good old days when blogging was new. . . I miss them! Several of us have tried to get blogging back up and going but there seems to be little interest these days, sadly. I will try to be here periodically because I find blogging a much more authentic way of connecting online with others. I'm glad you're here!
