Spring arrives, carefully

In Vermont, spring comes suddenly- no kidding, one day you can have a winter weather warning, and the very next you're outside basking in the sun, shedding all wintery layers. And just as fast, snow will be forecasted again.

Perhaps it is all in our heads- after a long gray winter- with temperatures hovering between 0 and 20 Fahrenheit, quite suddenly a sunny day of 43 degrees feels like we should be getting our summer shorts out.

At any rate, the equinox has come and gone, we are seeing green shoots and returning geese, spring decorations are up, I'm thinking about the need to tidy up the garden to get it ready for planting, I am knitting comfortably outside some days, and getting ready for 2 April birthdays. . .so we are quite firmly in spring (or should I say mud season). . .

Ordinarily this time of year I feel a lightness returning to my heart. Still waiting on that.

Love, Melanie

  1. Much the same here on the east coast of England. It's still cold, and we've had a wet, grey month. I'm clinging on, waiting for that moment when it's warm enough to leave the doors open, and suddenly life will feel do-able again. But the children have got the summer clothes boxes out, regardless of the flagging temperatures, and are determinedly trying on last year's shorts and summer dresses!
