moon print for box top
After too long a time not sewing a whole lot, this spring and summer I have begun sewing clothes for myself again. My personal style has changed a great deal over the last couple of decades, and is settling again on something a bit different- comfy being the number 1 trait. I abhor the word "flattering" when it comes to clothing, because it insinuates there are things people should and shouldn't wear based on their physique- and I firmly believe we should joyfully wear whatever speaks to us for whatever reason. I find at my age now, I care much less whether something gives me a certain appearance, and care more for both comfort, ease of movement, and self expression.
The above book I have mentioned in a previous post- I love the patterns in there. Simple and comfortable, and the patterns are paper! I have made a couple of the sleeveless box tops and am very happy with them. I was happy to find that the sew house seven patterns have a lot of paper options as well, and will try out the above pants pattern. They are comfy and elastic waisted, but with a bit more structure- pockets, side panels, and the option for french seams. I prefer the tapered option.

After wearing a great deal of black, (which is still my favorite color to wear and am often in all black, though I am adding more color lately) I am knitting Wren and myself red roll-neck sweaters. The red isn't properly showing up here, as I was sitting in the shade outside- but it's green mountain spinnery weekend wool, in "poppy." It's not a true red, but a bit rustic and I think it'll be nice.
Well after a perfect cool spring, summer has rolled its damp humidity in and we are adjusting to that currently. Eating greens, peas, and basil out of the garden, and getting ready to harvest dyer's chamomile for dying yarn and calendula to make infused coconut oil for skin.
Happy Summer!
Love, Melanie

I was so glad to see your blog made public once again! And now I'm caught up with a couple of new book recommendations, too, so thank you! I can't even really tell you how much your blog and instagram meant to me years ago (about 7, I guess.) I was going through such a hard time and your posts inspired a creativity that kept me afloat. I wish I'd told you then how much of a difference it made!
ReplyDeleteOh Sarah, that is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me, thank you! I really appreciate you reaching out and telling me that, at a time when I can really use some love and encouragement. HUGS
DeleteOh my, how I do love that fabric with the tea pots and birds! It's adorable.
ReplyDeleteYes I do agree with you about clothing. I just want to wear what a I want to wear. I’m so sick of thinking about how it will look on me. I love paper patterns as well. I’m happy you found some that you like.
